Pro V1 Vs TP5

Every serious golfer has heard of the Pro V1 and TP5 golf balls. For years these two brands have been competing for the top spot in terms of distance, spin, feel, and overall performance in the professional and amateur ranks. But which one is better? In this article, we’ll dive deep into the differences between the Pro V1 and TP5 to help you decide which of these tour balls is the one right for you.

The Pro V1 and TP5 have become synonymous with high-level golf performance. Both are designed to provide maximum distance off the tee while providing more spin around the green than other competitors. But there are some key differences between them that could affect your game.

From the cover to the core, we’ll compare every aspect of these two golf balls to see how they stack up against each other. If you’re looking for a ball that can give you an edge on the course no matter what conditions you face, then read on as we uncover all there is to know about Pro V1 vs TP5.

Both companies release new versions of these balls at regular intervals. The last few releases occurred in 2019, 2021, and 2023 (just for the Titleist).

Titleist Pro V1 Vs TaylorMade TP5 Golf Balls: Head-To-Head Comparison

It’s no secret that one of the most important pieces of equipment in a golfer’s bag is their golf ball. There are hundreds of options available, but two of the most popular choices are Titleist Pro V1 and TaylorMade TP5. So let’s take a look at how these two golf balls stack up against each other.

Distance, spin rates, ball flight and feel are all important considerations when choosing which ball to use. In terms of distance, the Pro V1 tends to fly further than the TP5, although it does depend on the individual golfer’s swing speed and launch conditions. Both balls are designed to offer relatively low spin on the driver while maintaining high levels of spin with the scoring clubs.

In various tests done by other publishers and in my own launch monitor and golf course testing, I found that the Pro V1 tends to edge slightly ahead in terms of distance but we are talking about 0.5% more yardage. If you are hitting the ball around 250 yards then you might get an extra 1-1.5 yards out of the Pro V1 on average.

If you are hitting the ball nearer 200 yards through the air then you will likely see only about a yard of difference in these balls.

You really need to pick the ball that best suits you.

If you need a little more spin off your driver and irons to keep the ball airborne then the Pro V1x or TP5x might be better choices. Similarly, if you tend to hit the ball on too low a trajectory then either of those balls should help get you some more height and improve your stopping power on approach shots.

Key Feature Comparison: TP5 Vs Pro V1

The TP5 and Pro V1 have been two of the most popular golf balls for years. Both are great for players looking for a premium ball that offers good spin in the short game but isn’t lacking from the tee. Here’s a comparison of their key features:

  • Pro V1: Great ball speed off the driver, great spin with the wedges, soft feel around greens.
  • TP5: Slightly more spin with driver, plenty of short game spin, not lacking in the distance stakes.

Both balls offer excellent performance off the tee and provide plenty of feel around the green. However, the Pro V1 is better for those who want more ball speed and slightly less spin with the driver. The TP5 is better for those seeking extra height and spin on iron shots. Extensive testing from independent sources shows that both balls perform well and would suit most golfers’ needs.

What Is The Difference Between Titleist Pro V1 And Taylormade TP5?

The Titleist Pro V1 and TaylorMade TP5 are two of the most popular golf balls on the market today. They both offer excellent performance for similar types of players. The Pro V1 offers great feel around the green but so does the TP5. The biggest difference between the two is that the TP5 is a five-layer golf ball compared to the Pro V1 which only is a three piece ball. TaylorMade believes this gives their ball an edge by allowing them to tune the performance of the ball for different parts of the game.

Who Should Play The Pro V1?

According to Titleist, the majority of golfers should be playing the Pro V1 or the Pro V1x. However, I doubt most 20+ handicappers or those who play infrequently will want to splash out $50+ per dozen. If you lose 4 or 5 balls per round then the cost can quickly add up! If you currently generate a bit too much spin then using the Pro V1 might bring your spin rates nearer the optimum as the Pro V1 is less spinny these days than the Pro V1x. The Pro V1 also generates less spin with the driver compared with the TP5 although the difference isn’t huge.

Who Should Play The TP5?

To be honest the same sort of players that would normally consider the Pro V1. If you are a fairly competent golfer and can hit the ball with a reasonable level of consistency then you should be able to get something from the TP5. While it doesn’t generate quite as much greenside spin as the Titleist it is going to be more than sufficient for the majority of handicap golfers. You would be better off thinking about stopping the ball through trajectory rather than spin anyway.

Testing The Pro V1 and TP5

Here are the results of my testing both of these golf balls using a Flightscope Mevo. Really bad shots have been ignored. You will see the TP5 spins a little more off the driver (also my driver spin is a bit too high!)

These numbers are broadly similar with other ball testing data from various online and offline sources. Obviously, your performance will be dependent on your launch parameters.

Distance, Spin And Control Comparison: ProV1 Vs TP5

When comparing the distance, spin and control of these balls, there are a few clear differences between the two. The TP5 is slightly higher-spinning than the ProV1 with the driver. However, when compared to the ProV1’s distance off the tee, Collin Morikawa’s ball of choice has a slight disadvantage but it isn’t really siginifcant. While both balls offer great control and spin on full shots, which means performance-wise, they are fairly similar for all but the best ball strikers.

Trajectory, Feel And Price Comparison: Pro V1 Vs TP5

Comparing Pro V1 and TP5 golf balls is like comparing two different varieties of apples. They are separate entities, designed for different preferences and skill levels. The Pro V1 is slightly lower compression, providing a softer feel than the TP5 and delivering a high level of spin control. Its trajectory is also higher, resulting in longer carry distances.

On the other hand, the TP5 offers more spin control than the Pro V and has a slightly firmer feel that produces more distance off the tee. It’s designed for players looking for maximum spin on their approach shots as well as increased distance off their driver. Both offerings provide great performance for golfers of any skill level, but it really boils down to preference when deciding which one to use.

Things To Consider Before Purchasing A Premium Golf Ball

Choosing a premium golf ball is an important decision for every golfer. It’s important to know the differences between Pro V1 and TP5, two of the top-rated golf balls on the market today.

Both balls will perform much the same for the majority of golfers. While those with lower handicaps and more consistency might be able to see more difference on a launch monitor even they may be hard pressed to see much difference in the performance of these two balls on the golf course.

Pro V1 is designed for maximum distance, while TP5 provides more spin and control around the green. Both balls are designed with soft cores that generate high spin off the tee, allowing you to shape your shots easily.

When it comes to feel, both golf balls are comfortable in hand and provide a soft feeling when struck. However, Pro V1 provides a slightly firmer feel compared to TP5. This makes Pro V1 suitable for players who prefer a bit more feedback from their clubs. On the other hand, players who like a softer impact will likely appreciate the feel of TP5 more.

Before purchasing either ball, consider your playing style and what type of performance you’re looking for out of your golf ball. If maximizing distance is important to you then Pro V1 will be your best option, while if you want better control around greens then TP5 may be the better choice. Make sure to try out both options before making your decision so that you can find which one works best for your game.

Pro V1 Vs TP5: Conclusion

The Titleist Pro V1 and TaylorMade TP5 are two of the best golf balls on the market. After reviewing their features and performance, it is clear that both of these balls have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Either of these balls will be a good fit for many golfers that look for performance in their equipment above all else.
