Performance From The Tee

Distance wise the TP5x tended to be marginally longer in robot tests although I couldn’t find much difference between the two during my own testing. It’s fair to say that my swing is really fast enough to get the best from these balls though.

Spin with the driver was about 7% lower with the TaylorMade compared with the Titleist. If your spin numbers are a little high then swapping to the TP5x should get you lower spin and move your launch conditions into the optimum window.

Compression

Both balls are among the firmest balls on the market in terms of the compression rating although being urethane balls they don’t feel that hard. Depending on the source of your information the difference is around 1 and probably won’t be noticeable to the majority of golfers.

Wedge Spin

The Titleist ball generated about 9% more spin with a wedge than you could get with the TaylorMade ball. Would this make that much difference to the performance of the ball round the green? I didn’t see a great deal of difference when comparing the balls but again I would point out they are really designed for players with more speed than I can generate.

Feel

Both balls felt pretty firm to me but if you have a fast swing then you will probably appreciate the feel of these balls.
