He was born in Neptune City, New Jersey on 22 April 1937 which makes him 84 at the time of writing.
He didn’t start playing the game seriously until his early 50s. Although he did dabble in his younger days including the odd bit of caddying.
A member of Bel-Air Country Club and Lakeside Golf Club he has sported a handicap index as low as 12. He likes to practice in his backyard hitting yellow range balls from astroturf which now litter the ground at the back of his property.
You may be thinking of Jack Nicklaus who with 18 major championships is still regarded as the best golfer in history. Known as the “Golden Bear”, Jack William Nicklaus was born in Columbus Ohio on 21 January 1940. The now 82-year-old (at the time of writing) won 2 US Amateurs (59 and 61) and 73 PGA Tour events during his illustrious career.
Jack managed to turn his hand to golf course design as his playing career began to wind down and his golf course design business is one of the largest in the world. One of his most famous designs is Muirfield Village where he hosts the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour each year. Glen Abbey Golf Course was his first solo design and this went on to host the Canadian Open for many years.
One of his more recent designs was the Concession Golf Club in Florida. This is a joint design in collaboration with Tony Jacklin to commemorate their historic match in the 1969 Ryder Cup.
